We will focus on strategies for developing students' reading skills; investigate the relationship between reading, writing, and critical thinking; and, consider sociocultural approaches to literacy in relation to student engagement and interests in various areas of the curriculum. Research-based practices for reading comprehension, vocabulary, composition, and study/learning techniques along with effective use of technology will be key to our understanding of different possibilities for application. Issues of linguistic and cultural diversity in today's classrooms will be embedded in readings, discussions, assignments, and other activities.
