EDUCATION 4053

This lab accompanies 4052 and has two paths available: one path for those majoring or interested in Teacher Education and a second path for all other students, including those in Educational Studies. Please read the following information carefully about the two paths. If you have any questions please direct them to the instructor. FOR STUDENTS CONSIDERING TEACHER EDUCATION: This required lab provides direct and indirect experiences with contemporary K-12 educational practice in schools through 30 clock hours of field observation to be completed during the semester. Students will observe the daily life of teachers and their interactions with children and adolescents, with the dual goal of understanding the professional nature of the setting (i.e. pedagogical decision-making processes, expectations and requirements for teachers, institutional functioning, etc.) and evaluating the presence or influence of educational psychology research in the daily practice of the setting. Assignments will include observation notes, discussions with lab members, and a brief, summative portrait of the site. ENROLLMENT NOTE: Students must complete their observations in school settings assigned by the WUSTL Department of Education Field Placement Specialist, and students must be concurrently enrolled in L12 EDUC 4052 (3.0 credits).
